Pre-employment health screening and medicals

John Munroe Health Support Services provide pre-employment health screening tailored to the specific needs of your company.

Finding new employees that are suitable for the vacant position is difficult. Pre-employment health screening aims to enhance this process by allowing any relevant health issues to be addressed.

Each questionnaire is assessed in line with the job description by one of the occupational health specialists at JMH Support Services.

A comprehensive report is then given to the client, which details:

  • Health eligibility for job description

  • Any support or development that may be required to fulfil job description

  • Any health risks and baseline screening relevant to job description

Audiology testing

John Munroe Health Support Services provide audiometry testing and risk assessments for noise in the workplace.

Screening audiometry can be undertaken at the workplace. It checks the effectiveness of the noise control measures undertaken by the company, allowing for potential risks to be identified (as required by the Control of Noise at Work Regulations, 2005).

The test result is a highly repeatable exact reading of the hearing thresholds by frequency. A questionnaire is administered and the ears are visually inspected. Hearing tests are carried out during working hours, with minimal disruption.  Due to the reliability of the test the required 3 year follow ups are comparable (as required the Control of Noise at Work Regulations, 2005).

Ear syringing

Many people are affected by a build up of ear wax at some time, and whilst this is not usually a sign of ill health, it can impact upon day to day activities within the company.

At John Munroe Health Support Services they offer a quick, convenient ear syringing service on an appointment basis. Current guidelines state that where possible the affected ear be treated with a few drops of warm olive oil.

Occupational driver assessments

John Munroe Health Support Services provide assessments for all occupational drivers to ensure that they satisfy the standards as laid out by the DVLA.

Detailed guidance on this can be found on the DVLA website.

Health assessments should be carried out:

  1. Prior to initial training on lift truck operation, then;

  2. Every 5 years thereafter;

  3. Following sickness/absence of one month or more; or following ill health which may have affected their ability to safely operate a lift truck;

  4. More frequently if deemed appropriate by the occupational health professional.

Initial health assessment should be carried out for new employees/new operators of lift trucks before training wherever possible.  Failing this, it should be carried out before first use in a non-training situation.

If you would like more details on the assessment and services on offer please call 01538 394270

Lung function tests

John Munroe Health Support Services provides spirometry or lung function testing to comply with requirements under COSHH.

Many industries use dangerous substances in their procedures. These can lead to obstructive and/or restrictive lung disease and so-called sensitisers can lead to occupational asthma, a reportable disease.

Industries with workers most at risk include those dealing with paint, flour, glue, resins, wood, pharmaceuticals, dyes, fluxes and detergents.

Spirometry can detect early signs of lung impairment, before a severe problem develops. It can detect deterioration at an earlier stage than X-Rays and so is an ideal monitor and method of prevention. Spirometry will also show signs of smoking and other lung disease.

The computerised test measures peak flow, lung volume and airway resistance to identify the possible presence of either restrictive and/or obstructive patterns. The figures are adjusted for age, sex and height of the individual.

A file is produced for each employee, with a management report providing a summary of results. JMH Support Services will refer the employee for further testing if required.

If you would like further details on this service please call 01538 394270

Drugs and alcohol screening offered by John Munroe Health Support Services

John Munroe Health Support Services are able to provide a routine drug and alcohol screening service.  Screening is done by appointment and takes the form of random breathalysing and blood drug/alcohol testing.  This will be done alongside your company's drug and alcohol policy.  Standard follow ups will then be arranged in line with that policy.

To discuss your requirements please telephone 01538 394270.
